- Forskolin & Coleus

Hi there, Alan here.
By now pure forskolin supplementation for losing weight has sparked a natural health healing protocol debate – does it work or is it effective – before we jump knee deep into knowledge about the praised ancient Ayurveda herbal medicine coleus forskohlii root extract, we will share a simple success story on using a ‘spark-plug’ supplement igniter like forskolin that may be leveraged for beneficial results like burning fat, boosting metabolism, blocking carbs and suppressing appetite.
When I first stumbled upon coleus forskholii as a viable option into healthy weight optimization, I immediately felt overwhelmed at the amount of products available online and was oblivious to which ingredients would actually help create a successful weight loss management journey come to fruition.
After all, most of us know natural nutritional health products add extra support and benefits from our daily diets and day to day lifestyle choices/habits. Forskolin is one of the most popular trending ingredients in 2016 for a wide range of respected benefits which we will cite and source below.
In a world of convenience over quality (at times), supplementing with pure ingredients and natural extracts help give temporal peace of mind about taking care of our bodies for the long term.
The problem, of course, is identifying which legit supplements hold their own marketed merit if you will…because if your anything like me, there’s an unbelievable amount of misguided information about what does what and who to order from and how much dosage is proper for intended benefits without side effects. But rest assured we are going to cover all of the past, present and future of forskolin research (2016 studies for example).
The short story is – Yes, Pure Forskolin Extract WORKS. But remember, premium potency is the precise pressure point and where quality matters.
Yes, supplements are shortcuts and sources of motivation, but the ingredients should not be undercut or undervalued. That said, do not underestimate the potency of a proven and powerful product. We will cover the intracellular cAMP concentration factors forskolin inherently has that stimulates and activates important biological benefits and sensory signals.
Now, back to a supplement success story using the above mentioned Natural Pure Forskolin. If you can relate to my supplement selecting struggles, then keep reading.
When I first ran across the wonder root (coleus forskohlii) – I like anyone, was extremely skeptical about the practicality of this actually and truly working for me – especially as bluntly and boldly advertised as it was with a wide range of benefits all stemming from this one exotic, seemingly exceptional extract.
Anytime you hear the slogan tag line of “lightening in a bottle” or “miracle fat burner” or “holy grail of weight loss” – immediate red flags arise as I try to decipher the disguise hidden between the lines – either so much mounting information is completely fabricated or it can all be validated.
Because for me, I have never truly struggled with losing weight (lucky me right?). I have always had a leaner, trimmer athletic build (but not overly muscular and by no means ripped) … but all of that suddenly changed when I got hurt (playing basketball) and was forced to endure and undergo my second major knee surgery that would inevitably put me out of commission for weeks and months to come.
This set me back much longer than I ever thought at the time.. both physically and mentally, things started ‘weighing’ me down. I was no spring chicken anymore. Emotional eating ensued. I was an injured ex-collegiate athlete and started seeing my weight balloon up to a flabby and chubby self-disgusted 210 pounds (my playing weight ranged from 190-195) – in which all of it seemed to just sit right on my mid-section.
I really began to think this stubborn belly fat would be the death of me. I tried everything under the sun at the time; smaller proportions, frequent eating, caloric restriction, fad diets and even fasting – you name it…this outer jelly on my belly was really causing me problems on all health spectrums across the board.
And that is how Forskolin first entered my life. I saw it in an ad (likely as you did) for helping lose weight .. while I thought ok, maybe, when I dug deeper and invested personal due dilligence, I was impressed at the amount of sheer advocating support this ‘lightening in a bottle ingredient’ provided.
I saw it used in skincare lotions and creams, on bodybuilding forums and muscle formulas. And I have since seen it in nootropic supplements as a brain booster and cognitive function enhancer. And then of course all the vast weight loss hype and speculations surrounding coleus forskholii root extracts.
Let me reel this back in…I tend to vent (although not pretend or invent) and dive deep down the rabbit hole .. essentially and effectively saying I wanted to know MORE.
Not just about forskolin supplementation, but natural health protocols that could help me life a long, active life.
While I do not want to go on a righteous rampage here about health and life, I still try to cater to those searching for pure natural forskolin information. Although, much like the body, it is a system of systems that all tie into the one large whole.
Even though I no longer have that stubborn belly fat – it set me on a path to make sure that I started treating my body like my temple (after all I only have 1 body to take care of) – and I wanted the best of the best, raw, pure, natural, organic – I wanted the freshest possible solutions to my stubborn belly fat.
Forskolin – Miracle or Scam?
If you have been paying any attention to the latest diet trends, then chances are you’ve heard of Forskolin. Advertisements all over health stores and the Internet label forskolin as the next big thing for weight loss.
However, just like we’ve seen in the past, supplements are often overhyped and their benefits are often misrepresented. Forskolin seems to be following the same path as it’s predecessors (Garcinia cambogia, green coffee extract, etc.) – or at least it has to this point. So what is forskolin and is it really a legitimate solution for weight loss?
What is Forskolin?
Forskolin is an extract from a plant in the mint family called Coleus forskohlii. Forskolin is known to increase the production of cyclic AMP, which has several effects on the body.
Forskolin was often used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain, as well as some respiratory disorders like asthma. It is sometimes used intravenously for heart failure and eye drops containing forskolin have shown some promising results in treating glaucoma.
However, up until a few years ago, nobody has ever heard of Forskolin.
Forskolin and Dr. Oz
Once again, much of the forskolin hype can be attributed to Dr. Oz. The TV doctor has featured forskolin a few times on his show. He even was so far as to call forskolin “lightning in a bottle” and a “miracle flower to fight fat.” He brought on “weight loss expert” who claimed that forskolin could double weight loss rates.
Of course, once the public hears someone like Dr. Oz announces a “miracle product” for weight loss, they’re going to flock to stores to buy forskolin. However, many people are finding that forskolin isn’t quite the miracle weight loss product that so many people have claimed it to be — or is it?
Forskolin and Weight Loss
According to Dr. Oz, forskolin is an amazing fat burner that revs up your metabolism to speed up the rate of fat loss. Supposedly, forskolin’s benefits come from its’ ability to increase cyclic AMP, or cAMP. cAMP helps cells talk to each other and one of cAMP’s primary functions is to regulate an enzyme called hormone sensitive lipase – which burns fat.
Forskolin – What Science Says
There is very limited data about forskolin, at least regarding weight loss. Forskolin has been extensively studied for other purposes but weight loss studies still explain little about the weight loss benefits of forskolin. Here’s what we have found:
In a randomized double-blind trial, thirty obese men were given forskolin or a placebo for 12 weeks. While the participants saw no significant weight loss, the forskolin group did experience a noticeable change in body composition. Forskolin seemed to help decrease body fat mass and percentage and free testosterone levels increased as well. However, no significant difference was observed in terms of weight loss.
In another double-blind study of 23 mildly overweight women, similar results were found. Researchers concluded that although forskolin does not directly appear to promote weight loss, it might help stop weight gain in overweight females without any significant side effects.
These are the only two human studies involving forskolin. As you can see forskolin is far from a “miracle.” In fact, science doesn’t really seem to indicate anything very positive about forskolin, in terms of its’ weight loss benefits.
Colues Forskohlii Safety and Side Effects
The one thing that forskolin does appear to be is safe. For the most part, studies have found that forskolin is overwhelmingly save when used appropriately. There are some minor side effects but they are not normally moderate or severe in any manner.
When inhaled, forskolin might cause:
• Throat irritation
• Minor cough
When taken by injection, forskolin has the potential to cause:
• Low blood pressure
However, as an oral supplement, there appear to be no major side effects while taking forskolin. This is reaffirmed if you look at the data from the clinical studies.
Can pregnant women take Forskolin?
As with many supplements, not enough is known about the use of forskolin during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Therefore, it is highly recommended that women avoid taking forskolin while pregnant or breastfeeding, just to be on the safe side.
Also, forskolin acts as a natural blood thinner, so it not advised that you use forskolin if you’ve had surgery or are planning on having surgery within two weeks.
Is Forskolin Worth Buying?
Research is only in its’ early stages right now and the data certainly indicates that forskolin is not a “miracle cure.” However, there does appear to be some benefits to taking forskolin, especially if you struggle with weight gain or producing lean muscle mass or lower energy levels.
There’s no reason to get your hopes up about Forskolin as a miracle solution but it may be worth trying to help you lose a couple extra pounds. Give it a shot and see what happens. Just make sure you take a Pure and Natural Forskolin supplement with at least 20% extract so that you will have the best chance to lose weight.
